WEEK 5 TO DO

DISCUSSION

A systematic review of the research suggests that there are ten steps to successful change. Most organizations seem to ignore this evidence, and this may contribute to the reportedly high failure rate of major change initiatives.

Considering the checklists covered on p. 323-327 in Chapter 10: Change Management Perspectives, explain how you can benefit from these checklists to prevent high failure rate. Also, discuss the types of change and organization for which each of these checklists may be beneficial.

ASSIGNMENT

Change at DuPont

This week you have learned about the organization development approach to change and its extensions, such as the appreciative inquiry and the sense making approach. These approaches help organization development practitioners to identify factors involved in the change and manage the change at the organizational level more effectively.

Keeping in mind what you have learned about the OD approach this week, read the case Change at DuPont on p. 153 in Chapter 9: Organization Development and Sense-Making Approaches. After reading the case, write a paper addressing the following three questions:

  1. To what extent are the following approaches to change embedded in the DuPont story (justify your answer, providing specific examples): OD, Appreciative Inquiry, Sense-Making
  2. In your opinion, how compatible are these three approaches? Why? What evidence is there in the DuPont story for your answer? As a change manager, to what extent could you utilize insights from each approach?
  3. Imagine you are an OD practitioner brought into DuPont at the time of the Orlon manufacturing operation closure. Describe the steps you would take to help manage this change based upon action research.

In your paper, ensure to utilize the textbook and integrate at least three peer-reviewed sources along with their citations and references. Your paper must be APA formatted and include at least 1500 words. Please use the APA 7th Essay Template available in the Supplementary Course Resources>>APA 7th Edition Resources section.
