This paper should be 3 double-spaced pages and will analyze the feedback that you are given throughout the first 8 negotiations in class.  You will be provided with two summaries of the feedback:  one, after exercises 1-4, and the other, after exercises 5-8.

The purpose of this paper is to encourage you to reflect on your behavior, strategies, and tactics during your negotiations.  Your Peer Feedback Analysis Paper should be a plan for what you want to continue to do and what you want to improve upon in your future negotiations. Actively engage with the feedback you received in your Peer Feedback Report. Analyze your report for patterns of behavior; do not focus on a single comment or behavior in a single exercise. What are you doing that is effective/ineffective as a negotiator? What are you planning to do to address the behavior that your peers are suggesting is problematical? The course reading assignments should help you identify what you can do in the future.

Your grade for the analysis paper is not a function of your performance on the exercises as a negotiator. Rather, it is a function of how well you reflected upon your negotiation behaviors and showed self-insight.

Your Peer Feedback Analysis paper helps me monitor your understanding of negotiation concepts introduced in-class discussion and reading assignments, as well as your skill acquisition. Most importantly, however, it motivates you to analyze your own abilities and to work on improving your skills.

Questions to help with the analysis:

What tactics and strategies in my negotiations (be specific) were effective/ineffective? WHY? (Answering “why” is the most important part of your analysis).

How did your approach help you or hurt you?

How did your process compare with what you are learning from the reading assignments on negotiation? For example, you might get a comment that you are overly competitive. What did the assigned readings suggest is the impact of a competitive motive in negotiation? What behaviors do the readings suggest lead to being perceived as competitive? What do you plan to do about this feedback? Why?

Were you surprised by your feedback—if so, why?

Be sure to address personal insights about how your personality, past experiences, or cultural background may have affected your choice of strategies or implementation of tactics. Give yourself prescriptive advice. What did you learn from the feedback? How do you want to change your behavior?
