Special Education Diverse Learners Project

It is important for principals to possess the fundamental knowledge and skills associated with their leadership responsibilities for special education in their school including:

knowledge of disabilities, the identification of students with disabilities, the delivery of educational services in accordance with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and Section 504 Plans; providing support for staff, collaborating with parents, and the laws that guarantee and protect the educational rights of students with disabilities. Principals are responsible for providing educational leadership for all students in their school including those with identified disabilities.
