Theoretical and conceptual frameworks are terms in which are used interchangeably in research. Green (2014) mentions that some research methods do not use a theoretical or conceptual framework in their designs. All of my articles state no types of framework used nor does it use any specific theories to back up or test. The research articles pertaining to my research question have two different approaches to conclude the effectiveness of the teach-back method to reduce readmissions within 30 days of discharge.

One approach has a common theme of researchers comparing a treatment group to a control group. The treatment group was taught specific information using the teach-back method along with disease specific education from trained professional nurses with a background in cardiology compared to standard discharge teaching. These were mainly qualitative studies, which involved questionnaires, interviews and observing readmission rates.

Another approach that researchers took had also a common theme, which was to compare and contrast multiple studies on the effectiveness of the teach-back method in relation to readmission rates. They conducted a systematic review analysis in order to show how effective the teach-back method is from different aspects of research. In one study, the researchers analyzed 15 different research studies where as the researchers in another study analyzed 4 different studies. The researchers in these studies were able to extract the common problem in all of the research articles they analyzed to support the effectiveness of the teach-back method.

After reading through both articles and going through the study I am researching, I found that my research proposal holds both theoretical and conceptual theories. The articles stated that conceptual theories pull from different theories to determine the direction of the research, whereas theoretical research is centered around a single theory (Greene, 2014). The theories that guide research are an important aspect of research. The article stated that these theories can be used in different ways, and if done correctly can predict the results of the research (Connelly , 2014). The concept map that I designed shows the different concepts and that lead to nurse burnout, and how research supports those concepts. Attached you will find my concept map.
