Instructional Leadership Resource  Review Presentation (75 points)

BACKGROUND:   Instructional leaders must be well versed in the expectations, requirements, and resources available not only within their districts but at the state level.    Assume that you have been selected to develop and present a 45-60 minute training for colleagues identifying instructional resources and information available from national resources and the Mississippi Department of Education that support the work of an effective school.

A. Review/ analysis of four professional educational websites. Select 4 of the following websites to review What Works Clearinghouse,Links to an external site. Comprehensive Center NetworkLinks to an external site., CEEDAR,Links to an external site. Florida Center for Reading Research,Links to an external site. Learning Forward,Links to an external site. Institute of Educational SciencesLinks to an external site. (see menu features), Ed ReportsLinks to an external site., Education Commission for the StatesLinks to an external site., Instruction PartnersLinks to an external site., or Evidence for ESSALinks to an external site.. For each of the 4 websites you selected, what specific resources would be immediately useful to an instructional leader and why?  You will include this information in the PowerPoint you create. Be sure to focus on at least one specific resource from each of the national sites that will be useful to your audience.

B. Peruse the Mississippi Department of Education website to identify instructional resources, guidance, or tools that teachers in your school should know and use.  Select at least 3 MDE instructional-related resources or publications to review and include in a presentation for colleagues at your school.

C. Prepare a PowerPoint presentation to develop an awareness of instructional resources, policies, and guidelines that you and your colleagues should know and use in their respective roles. Remember this assignment counts toward clinical hours so take your time and make it meaningful.

TIPS:

  • Remember and identify on your title slide the specific audience (e.g. elementary, middle school, high school, counselors, etc.).
  • Be creative, engaging, and practical.  Remember, you are preparing a presentation for your colleagues —- What do they need to know? What processing activity will you use to engage them in the presentation?
  • Your slides should not be a “list of links”; rather, include enough information that the slides “speak for themselves”.  I should be able to see clearly why you included your selected content slides.
  • For each slide, be sure to include slide notes.  This is function available on PPT, but contact me if you have trouble locating it.
  • Follow the rubric.

The PowerPoint presentation must:

  1. Include (a) Slide 1 – title slide – be sure to identify the audience (b) Slide 2 – an overview slide that contains topics or areas that subsequent slides will address.
  2. Slides 3 – 16 (max number of slides) – information on the 4 national resources/ websites you reviewed and at least 3 instructional-related information, policies/ guidance, and/or resources from the MDE site, that your audience should know and use in their role.
  •
    • Include a processing activity slide that requires training participants to apply or explore the information being shared.
    • Be sure to hyperlink and cite references for the information you include on your slides.

C. Completed PowerPoint and any clarifying notes for the presentation/ WCU instructor should be uploaded to Canvas.  I strongly encourage you to include notes to be sure that I understand all aspects of your presentation. (75 pts.)

This assignment can meet 3 of your clinical practice hours. This assignment is due September 1.
