In the Production Notes which Lisa Loomer wrote to preface the play for actors and directions, she writes this:
In terms of tone . . . The play walks a delicate line between funny and tragic. Actors who are innately funny (not broad), who understand timing and irony, but are not afraid to go deep, capture the tone best. Please go for nuance of character and good intentions as opposed to caricature. Every character in this play cares about children and is doing the best they can . . . in their own way (3).
Its important to remember this note about the plays tone so that we do not demonize any individual character, so with that quote in mind, please do the following:
Choose two characters from the play who seem to have different world views about what is best for children.
Brainstorm a list of points and quotes that help you to understand the world views/beliefs about each of those two characters.
Summarize those two characters world views/beliefs in your own words.
This is brainstorming that will help you for an upcoming paper.
In the peer review for this assignment, you will read and share ideas with one other student.
Please complete peer reviews as quickly as possible.
