Instructions:
You will use the data set (BMI Scores) provided below to create three tables (Data
Organization Table, Simple Frequency Distribution Table, Grouped Frequency
Distribution Table). You will use MS Excel to display your data. With all of your tables,
be sure to highlight and bold your titles and sums and add borders to the table. You will
create two charts: one column chart and one pie chart. You will also create two new
tables: a table with the Measures of Central Tendency and one with the Measures of
Variability.

Data Set: BMI Scores
The following data are BMI scores.

27, 21, 34, 32, 19, 28, 27, 33, 40, 32, 30, 22, 26, 30, 38, 18, 32, 24, 22, 30, 34, 18, 26, 24,

Measures of Central Tendency: Mean, Median and Mode
1. Find the mean, median and mode for the BMI Scores data set. You will need to show

where these statistics are on your tables by bolding and/or shading the cells which
contain these statistics. You will also calculate the mean for the data set in the cell
below the sum of scores in the Data Organization Table.

The following example data are exam scores from an exam that is worth 50 pts.

2. Create a Grouped Frequency Distribution Table. For your BMI Scores use the

following BMI Categories to form your groups.
< 18.5 Underweight, 18.5 – 24.9 Normal, 25 – 29.9 Overweight, > 30 Obese

Measures of Variability: Range, Variance and Standard Deviation
3. Calculate the Range for the BMI Scores data set.
4. Create two new tables. One will include all of the measures of Central Tendency

(mean, median and mode) and the other will include all of the measures of variability
(range, variance and standard deviation). For the second table, you will only have the
range calculated for now, but please include all three statistics in the table so that you
can add in the variance and standard deviation later (see tables below).
